Evaluating a knowledge management implementation method in a network of private schools in Brazil

Abstract:

In the context of education, the implementation of Knowledge Management (KM) aims to enhance outcomes. This article seeks to propose and evaluate a method for implementing KM in private basic education schools. The method employed in this research was based on the stages of KM implementation and the KM practices already in use in private schools. A qualitative approach was adopted, utilizing semi-structured interviews, as well as a focus group. This article proposes a method for implementing KM that has been assessed by technical and administrative professionals from basic education institutions, thereby advancing the discussion of KM in the educational context. The proposed and evaluated method, titled Knowledge Management in Education (KMEDU), comprises five stages: diagnosis, design, implementation, improvement, and evaluation. Each stage includes defined objectives, activities, and implementation mechanisms. Additionally, an appendix for each objective provides specific elements to support the implementation of the method in schools. The article offers school managers a peer-assessed tool designed to manage technical and administrative knowledge, with the goal of improving outcomes.
