Abstract:

The digitalization of the academic knowledge-sharing industry has underscored problems associated with inferior academic knowledge-sharing platforms. This article examines a subset of such platforms, academic journals without identification codes. Although reliable in practice, publishing with these journals results in minimal academic value, as their lack of identification prevents indexing by scholarly databases. This paper revisits one underexplored problem: institutionally affiliated journals operating without a valid, verifiable, or internally consistent International Standard Serial Number. Using an exploratory, existence-oriented, case observation design, the study confirms the presence of multiple cases. Thus, this article contributes to establishing a research agenda for the academic knowledge-sharing ecosystem.
