Knowledge Management (KM) 2023 - About Geneva, Switzerland

The currency in Geneva is Swiss Franc (CHF) (which is the same as EUR (€)).

Geneva, city of Calvin, the United Nations, CERN, and so much more, is the second largest city in Switzerland after Zurich with half a million people on a 246 km2 territory. Close to everything including a lake, the Alps, and a very beautiful countryside you will also find great vineyards. You can find all the useful details to plan some additional time in the region here: https://www.geneve.com/

Arrival Airports:

  • Geneva Airport, Switzerland (Airport code: “GVA”) - about 20 minutes ride in a taxi, private transfer, or rental car. Please note that you can get a free ticket for Public Transport in bagage claim hall, BEFORE going through customs.
  • Zurich Airport, Switzerland (Airport code: “ZRH”) - about 3 hours ride in private transfer, or rental car or about 2:45 hrs train ride (Check the supersaver tickets via: https://www.sbb.ch/en/).
  • Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, France (Airport code: “LYS”) - about 1:45hrs to 2hours ride in a taxi, private transfer, or rental car. Be aware that you will need to cross the France-Swiss border, which will add more time. If you plan to rent a car, ensure the company allows the vehicle to be taken across the border and you have all the certifications + insurance to do so (*** See Vignettes info below).
  • Malpensa Airport, Italy (Airport code: “MXP”) - about 5 hours car ride. Be aware that you will need to cross the Italy-France and Swiss borders, which will add more time. If you plan to rent a car, ensure the company allows the vehicle to be taken across the border and you have all the certifications + insurance to do so (*** See Vignettes info below).

Rental Car Vignettes

Please note that if you rent a car in France, Italy, Germany, or Slovenia, you have to check whether the vehicle has a valid Swiss vignette. If it does not have it, you will need to purchase a vignette – every gas station sell them, or you can buy it over Internet (see bellow). The price for a passenger car vignette is 40 CHF/EUR for a full year (no option to purchase for less). If you rent a car in Switzerland, the vignette is included in your rental fee. More information, including how and where to purchase the vignettes, can be found at gas stations, locations near the border, and these websites:
